Verda H. Spence

Verda H. Spence, 97, formerly of First Street, died Sunday at Laurel Lake Center. Born in Tyringham on July 20, 1903, daughter of Franklin and Hattie Dowd Mills, she attended Tyringham and South Lee schools. She moved to Pittsfield in the early 1930s, where she worked at the former Eaton Paper Co., and returned to Lee in the late 1940s. Her huband, Edward J. Spence, died in 1965. She leaves a son, William T. Spence of Lenox Dale; a daughter, Shirley A. Spence of Lee, and a grandson. Another son, Bernard F. Spence, died May 5, 1988. The funeral for Verda H. Spence will be Wednesday morning at 10 at KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with the Rev. Canon Noel A. Bailey, rector of St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 until the time of the funeral.
