Olive Stafford

Olive Stafford, 100, of East Street died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. She had been a resident of the Village at Laurel Lake in Lee since January. Mrs. Stafford was the holder of the "Jade Pin," which is presented to the oldest female resident of Stockbridge. She had been a resident of Stockbridge since 1922. Born in Hinsdale on Nov. 22, 1900, daughter of Henry P. and Marjorie McMaster Brown, she was educated in schools in Hinsdale and Dalton. Mrs. Stafford enjoyed sports, especially the New York Yankees and watching Tiger Woods play golf. She also enjoyed horse racing and would watch the races in the summer at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. She also enjoyed spending time at her cottage on Lake Champlain and shopping. Mrs. Stafford was a member of First Congregational Church in Hinsdale and a longtime member of Wisdom Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in West Stockbridge. Her first husband, Clayton Richards, whom she married in 1922, died in 1934. Her second husband, Harry Stafford, whom she married in 1940, died in 1969. She leaves two stepdaughters, Elaine Maguire of Bennington, Vt., and Sally White of Belmont, N.H.; 11 step-grandchildren, 20 step-great-grandchildren, and two step-great-great-grandchildren. A brother, Charles H. Brown, and two sisters, Florence B. Bartlett and Mildred B.B. Hosburgh, predeceased her. A graveside service will be held at Hinsdale Maple Street Cemetery at a time and date to be announced. FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, Great Barrington, is in charge of arrangements.
