George V. Douillet

George Victor Douillet, 85, of 60 Meadow Lane died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on March 8, 1916, son of Victor and Jeanne Ruez Douillet, he was a 1933 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He had resided in Lanesboro for 47 years. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Douillet was employed by General Electric Co. for more than 40 years, retiring in 1977 as a welder. He was a communicant of North American Martyrs Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs. He enjoyed writing and was a frequent contributor to The Berkshire Eagle letters to the editor section. He also enjoyed gardening, watching sports and taking day trips. He leaves his wife, the former Eva Fresia, whom he married Jan. 18, 1947, in St. Mary's Church, Pittsfield; two sons, Duke D. Douillet of Housatonic and Laurin P. Douillet of Lanesboro; two daughters, Vicki M. Toumayan of South Bend, Ind., and Julie A. Ponticello of Zionsville, Ind., and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Germaine Garnish, late of Washington, Mass., who died in 1998. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at North American Martyrs Church, Lanesboro, concelebrated by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor, and the Rev. John T. Smegal of St. Brigid Parish, Amherst. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Douillet's memory may be made to North American Martyrs Church or to Pregnancy Support Services of Berkshire County in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
