Louis J. Wabnig Jr., 70, of 41 North Summer St. died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital. Born in Adams on Feb. 18, 1931, son of the late Louis J. and Mary Zirknitzer Wabnig, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1949. In his earlier years, he worked for the former Adams Supermarket in Adams and the former First National Supermarket in North Adams, both for several years. He then worked for the former Wall Streeter Shoe Co. and Johnson Controls Co. in Bennington, Vt., as a foreman for many years, retiring in 1993. His wife, the former Alexina Babeau, whom he married March 5, 1954, died April 3, 1998. He leaves a nephew, Bernard Dupras of Harrington, Del., and a niece, Nancy Lee Barrow of Adams. The funeral will take place Saturday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. at TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME in Adams, with the Rev. William Furey, pastor of the Berkshire Union Chapel Church in Berkshire of Lanesboro, officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
