Mathew Nazzewski

Mathew Nazzewski, 90, of 9 1/2 Richmond Lane died yesterday morning at home. Born in Fulton, N.Y., on Dec. 25, 1910, son of Victor and Anna Topor Nazzewski, he moved to Stamford, Vt., as a child and attended Vermont and New York schools. He had resided in Adams for 60 years. Mr. Nazzewski was employed as a glass blower for more than 50 years at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, retiring in 1977. After his retirement, he worked as a consultant part time for several years. He held 11 patents in his name in conjunction with his scientific work at Sprague. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a life member of more than 50 years of the Adams Lodge of Elks. He was a founding member of the American Scientific Glass Blowers Association and attended 40 symposiums held by the association. He was a member of the Sprague Electric Quarter Century and Retirees clubs, and enjoyed traveling and working his land in Stamford. His first wife, the former Blanche Kruzel, died Feb. 5, 1967. He leaves his wife, the former Albina B. Kruzel, whom he married Dec. 12, 1968; two sons, Frederick M. Nazzewski of Adams and Edward J. Nazzewski of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Another son, Frederick Nazzewski, died in 1942. He leaves three grandchildren, Theresa Langenback, Thomas Nazzewski and Vicki Hayes, and a great-grandson, Sean Hayes. He was predeceased by a brother, Zygamond Nash. The funeral will be Monday at 9:15 a.m. from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, by the Rev. John C. Chwalek, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Northern Berkshire, which provided hospice care to Mr. Nazzewski, or to St. Stanislaus' Church through the funeral home.
