Ruth E. deSousa

Ruth E. deSousa, 79, of 149 Louis Road, Springfield, a former resident of Tyringham, died Sunday at East Longmeadow Nursing Home. She was a former member of the Tyringham School Committee and former town librarian. Born in Williamstown on Sept. 27, 1922, daughter of Harold and Mary Breed Pike, she graduated from Lee High School in three years. Mrs. deSousa was employed as a librarian at several elementary schools in Springfield and was secretary to the administrator of Ludlow Hospital and to its director of nursing. She also worked in the investment department of Berkshire Life Insurance Co. in Pittsfield and was the first president of the Business and Professional Women's Association. She and her husband, George M. deSousa, were married April 19, 1947. Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Richard M. deSousa of Hampden, Douglas G. deSousa of Plymouth, Conn., and John F. deSousa of Springfield; a daughter, Lisa C. deSousa of Springfield, and seven grandchildren. The funeral will be tomorrow at 9 from BYRON FUNERAL HOME, 1858 Allen St., Springfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Patrick's Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Visiting hours are today from 5 to 8. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Mass. Chapter, P.O.
