Lawrence Farmer

Lawrence "Pat" James Farmer, 73, of 140 Bunce Road, Ashley Falls, died Monday at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. Born in Quebec, Canada on Dec. 27, 1927, son of John Buzzell and Catherine Agnes Reynolds Farmer, he attended schools in Quebec. While in Canada, he worked as a photographer. He moved to Torrington, Conn., and began working for the Torrington Co., retiring after 27 years as a lithographer in the printing department. He moved to Ashley Falls in 1990. Mr. Farmer was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in North Canaan, Conn. An accomplished woodworker, he made furniture and cabinets. He enjoyed gardening and birdwatching. He leaves his wife, the former Jean Margaret Grubb; a son, Michael S. Farmer of North Canaan; two daughters, Catherine M. Farmer-McCann and Brenda Mary Lynn Melaragno, both of Torrington; a sister, Sister Catherine of St. Joseph's Church convent of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec; a brother, Francis George Farmer of East Montpelier, Vt., and eight grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the NEWKIRK-PALMER FUNERAL HOME, 118 Main St., North Canaan, Conn., on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the Bitterman Center, 2 Daisy Hill Road, North Canaan, due to the ongoing renovations of St. Joseph's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Cemetery Road, North Canaan, Conn. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Friday from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Joseph's Church, P.O. Box 845, Canaan, CT 06018.
