Raymond Brownson

Raymond Louis Brownson, 83, formerly of Great Barrington, died Sunday in Brooksville, Fla. Born in Great Barrington on March 28, 1918, son of Edward S. and Cora L. Turner Brownson, he attended local schools and graduated from the former Searles High School. He served in World War II with Company K, 398th Infantry Regiment, in the Ardennes-Alsace, the Rhineland and Central European campaigns, and received three bronze star medals. Mr. Brownson was employed as a gardener and handy man for the former Stevens Feed & Grain many years and the former Adams Feed & Grain. He later worked for Arin Schroder in Great Barrington as a groundskeeper. He moved to Brooksville three years ago. He was a member of the James A. Modolo Post Veterans of Foreign Wars. He leaves a sister, Lulu Tribble of Southbury, Conn. Two brothers, George and Charles Brownson, have predeceased him. Funeral services will be graveside on Friday, Nov. 30, at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, Great Barrington, with the Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor of First Congregational Church, officiating. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mason Library in care of FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME, 426 Main St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
