Gerard A. Dragon

Gerard Andrew Dragon 81, of 142 Church St. died Wednesday afternoon at home. Born in Gilbertville on May 21, 1920, son of Appolinaire and Alexina Richards Dragon, he attended schools in Easthampton and graduated from the agricultural program at Smith Vocational School in Florence. A herdsman by trade, Mr. Dragon was employed by Model Dairy Farm from 1949 to 1959, then by Bright Water Paper Co. in Adams until 1967. He was most recently employed by GE in Pittsfield from 1967 to 1977. He was a communicant of St. Mary''s Church. He enjoyed gardening, and raised blueberries, strawberries, rabbits and chickens. He also was a self-taught carpenter. He leaves his wife, the former Theresa R. Lively, whom he married Sept. 2, 1946; a son, Lawrence G. Dragon of Cheshire; four daughters, Marion J. Tinney of Hinsdale, Louise A. Mroz of Harmony, Maine, Beatrice C. Davis of Pittsfield, and Evelyn R. Polidoro of Kenya; two sisters, Gabrielle Chicoine of Holyoke, and Elmira Goulet of the state of Florida; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Another son, Thomas E. Dragon, died May 4, 1991. The funeral will be Monday, Dec. 3, at 9:15 from DERY-CHESHIRE FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 at St. Mary of the Assumption Church by the Rev. David Raymond, pastor. Burial will follow in Cheshire Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, Dec. 2, from 3 to 6 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Dragon''s memory may be made to the Thomas E. Dragon Memorial Scholarship Fund at McCann Technical School in care of the funeral home, 121 North State Road, Cheshire, 01225.
