Aurore McDevitt

Aurore A. McDevitt, 92, formerly of 52 Maple St.,died yesterday at North Adams Commons, where she had been a resident for two weeks. Born Jan. 1, 1909, in Cochituate, daughter of Herman and Elizabeth Burke Dore, she moved to Adams as a child and graduated from the former Notre Dame School. She was employed by the former Brightwater Paper Co. and was a domestic nurse and caregiver for local families, including that of attorney Walter J. Donovan. She retired many years ago and was a resident of the Watson House in Bennington, Vt., prior to her admission to the Commons. She was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. She and her husband, William J. McDevitt, were married May 16, 1933, in Notre Dame Church by the Rev. Oscar Chartland. Her husband died Dec. 27, 1995. She leaves a son, William F. McDevitt of Pittsfield; a daughter, Nancy Kelleher of North Adams; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Doris Armstrong and Rita Moore, and a brother, Girard Dore. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered tomorrow at noon at Notre Dame Church in Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours at MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., Adams, will be today from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 11 Campus Lane, Easthampton, MA 01027 or through the funeral home.
