William Pedercini

William Robert Pedercini, 64, of 45 Leonard St., owner of Simon's Market in Pittsfield, died Saturday evening at home. Born in North Adams on Oct. 14. 1937, son of George and Katherine Hickey Pedercini, he graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in North Adams in 1956 and from Albany (N.Y.) Business School. He also attended Siena College in Loudonville, N.Y. He served four years with the Massachusetts Army National Guard, first at Fort Devens and later with Company C in North Adams. Mr. Pedercini worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. as telecommunications manager and as manager of the credit union, retiring in 1992 with more than 30 years of service. He then worked briefly for Prudential Insurance Co. In 1994, he purchased Simon's Market and was CEO of its parent corporation, Stradel Inc., which he formed with his late wife, the former Ann M. Ruane, and his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Craig Marszalek. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas and enjoyed spending time at the beaches in Wells, Maine. His wife, whom he married June 11, 1966, died Jan. 26, 1999. Besides his daughter, of Pittsfield, he leaves a son, Timothy J. Pedercini of Adams; another daughter, Nancy E. Pedercini-Acquista of Adams; a sister, Kathleen J. Pedercini of Adams, and five grandchildren. A sister, Helen A. Spencer, died in November 1998. The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Northern Berkshire, which provided care to Mr. Pedercini, through the funeral home.
