Frederick Berthiaume

Frederick D. Berthiaume, 77, of 1 Noble Place died Sunday in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., while visiting the southwest. Born in North Adams on Dec. 23, 1923, son of George and Matilda Therriault Berthiaume, he graduated from Drury High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1941 and served in the Battle of Guadacanal and Pelieu. He was honorably discharged in August 1945 at the Boston Naval Base. Mr. Berthiaume was employed by the Adams Print Works in the Jones Division and later at General Electric Co. in the ordnance department, retiring in 1987 after 23 years of service. He was a member of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and a life member of the Burnette-Bednarz Veterans of Foreign Wars Adams Post. He also was a member of Adams Lodge 1334 Elks. His wife, the former Bertha L. McGrath, died April 9, 2001. He leaves a daughter, Darlene B. Hamilton of Lake George, N.Y.; a son, Frederick E. Berthiaume of Frederick, Md.; a sister, Theresa White of Moses Lake, Wash., and five grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held for the family at a date to be announced in the family lot in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. The MCBRIDE FUNERAL HOME, 6 Liberty St., Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
