Laura H. Getman

Laura Harrington Getman, 90, formerly of Cheshire and Sharren Lane, Enfield, Conn., died yesterday at Suffield House in Suffield, Conn. Born in Adams on May 31, 1911, daughter of Gilbert A. and Alice Greason Harrington, she attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Bliss Business College in North Adams. She moved to Enfield in 1960. Mrs. Getman was employed as an accountant for 10 years at Fabers Inc., retiring in 1970. While in Cheshire, she worked at The Berkshire Eagle for a number of years. She was a member of United Methodist Church of Enfield and Ionic Chapter 100, Order of Eastern Star. While in Cheshire, she played the organ for United Methodist Church for 10 years and was a 4-H leader for 12 years. She was a past matron of the Stafford chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Cheshire, and a member of the AARP North Central Connecticut Chapter 1209 and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1501 Ladies' Auxiliary in Enfield. Her husband, D. Marhlon Getman, is deceased. She leaves two daughters, Charlotte Donovan of Fairfax, Va., and Betty Ann Lavigne of Enfield; four grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m. from LEETE-STEVENS ENFIELD CHAPELS, 61 South Road, Enfield, followed by burial at 1:30 in Cheshire (Mass.) Cemetery. Laura's family will receive relatives and friends tomorrow, Dec. 19, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the funeral home. A service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by Ionic Chapter 100, Order of Eastern Star.
