Donald R. Wood, 90

Donald Ray Wood passed away at home Monday, May 4, 2020, in Sun City West, Ariz., at the age of 90. 

He was born on May 31, 1929, in North Adams, Mass. He was the son of the late Ray Wood and Laura (Gauthier) Wood of Clarksburg, Mass. He remained a resident of Clarksburg for 68 years, serving in U.S. Marines for four years. He was employed by General Electric Co. of Pittsfield for 42 years. 

Active in the Northern Berkshires Mens Association, he continued to enjoy his retirement years in Arizona while spending his summers in Maine. He enjoyed golf, lawn bowling, church suppers, seafood dinners and striking up a conversation with anyone he met.

Married on October 23, 1954, to Alta Lavanway, they recently celebrated their 65th anniversary. 

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dennis of Sun City West, Ariz., and Gary and partner Vicki Richardello of Adams, Mass.; daughter Beverly Chipman of Poland, Maine; two granddaughters, Amy Finley and husband David of Binghamton, N.Y., and Heidi Chipman of Albany, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, twins Evan and Catherine Finley; five nieces and nephews; and many grand- and great-grand ones.

He was predeceased by his sister Virginia in 2013; his brother Warren in November 2019; and his sister Claire in March 2020.

Funeral notice: Private services are planned at a later time. Donations in his memory can made to Hospice of The Valley Arizona, VNA Hospice of North Berkshire or the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department. Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center is in charge of all arrangements.

I am sorry to hear of Mr. Wood passing.
I have many fond memories of he and his wife being the best neighbors (in the pink house) on Wood Rd. when I was just a kid. My condolences to all of his family and friends. He was certainly a wonderful soul.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr Woods' passing. TIme moves so quickly , it seems like just yesterday we enjoyed times at your home in Clarksburg. May many fond memories and the blessings of no more suffering guide all of you at this time. It is never easy and I am myself still in a numb state just losing Mom. Prayers and Love you all.
