Roy J. Wood

Roy James Wood, 82, of 61 Melrose St. died Tuesday afternoon at home. Born in Plymouth, England, on Oct. 30, 1919, son of James and Lillian Mildren Wood, he came to the United States at the age of 8. He attended schools in England, Pittsfield and Adams. He graduated from the former Adams High School and from the GE apprentice program for draftsmen. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Coast Artillery. Mr. Wood was employed as a design draftsman in the power transformer division of GE from 1945 until retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading and Civil War history. He leaves his wife, the former Beatrice M. Langlois, whom he married Feb. 17, 1944; a son, Gregory J. Wood of Dunn Loring, Va.; a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Brian R. Wood, who died Dec. 3, 1993, and a sister, Doreen Germanowski. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Daniel J. Boyle, pastor of the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. There are no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Northern Berkshire, which provided hospice care to Mr. Wood, or to the Parish of Notre Dame and St. Thomas Aquinas through the funeral home.
