Matthew F. Juras

Matthew F. Juras, 82, of 70 Columbia St. died yesterday morning at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center. Born in Adams on Sept. 14, 1919, son of Peter and Hedwig Cynar Juras, he attended local schools. In 1933, Mr. Juras became employed by the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. as a dorfer. He also was a union representative and secretary-treasurer for TWUA- CLO Local 780. In 1953, he purchased the former Commercial Street Cafe, and in 1959, opened Matt's Pizza at the same location, operating it until retiring in 1984. Mr. Juras was a communicant of St. Stanislaus' Church and a member of Adams Lodge of Elks 1335, the Maple Grove Civic Club and the Polish National Association. He also was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Greylock Community Club, both in North Adams. His wife, the former Alfrieda Glowacki, whom he married June 10, 1944, died Aug. 28, 1996. He leaves a son, Matthew P. Juras of Adams; a daughter, Linda Bednarz of Adams; two sisters, Blanche Kaczka and Monica Major, both of Adams; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Juras. The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 9 from TROTTIER-PRINGLE FUNERAL HOME in Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Adams by the Rev. John C. Chwalek, pastor. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery in Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow, Jan. 8, from 4 to 7. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the Shriners' Hospitals for Crippled Children through the funeral home, 6 Summer St., North Adams, MA 01220.
