Rosa Sternberger

Rosa Sternberger, 93, formerly of 4174 Inverrary Drive, Lauderhill, Fla., died Saturday at Sweet Brook Care Center. Born in Fehegyarmat, Hungary, on Feb. 28, 1908, daughter of Herman and Ester Fischer Klein, she attended schools there before moving to Yugoslavia. During World War II, she was a refugee in Rome. Mrs. Sternberger emigrated to New York City in 1950, where she owned and operated Femme Chic, designing and making high-fashion dresses. She operated the business for about 20 years until retiring to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She moved to Williamstown in April 2000. Her husband, John Sternberger, whom she married in the 1930s, died Dec. 29, 1989. She leaves a daughter, Nada Samuels of Williamstown; a stepson, Steven Sternberger of Old Bethpage, L.I., N.Y.; two sisters, Frida Arato of New York and Margit Kohn of Rome; two grandchildren; several step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Survivors include two granddaughters, Erika Koster of Minneapolis and Melissa Samuels Parker of Los Angeles, and two great-granddaughters, Mira and Eleanor Koster. Her parents and several brothers and sisters were victims of the Holocaust. Graveside services and burial will be tomorrow, Jan. 8, at 11:30 at the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
