James 'Jim' Kenny, 83

CHESHIRE, Mass. — James William Kenny, 83, of Cheshire died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at his home.

Born in Waterbury, Conn., on Aug. 11, 1937, he was the son of Michael F. and Loretta Jones Kenny.

Jim received his master's in human services marketing/management from Lesley College in Cambridge. He then became a licensed nursing home administrator.

He married the former Teresa "Terry" A. Cermenaro on Oct. 20, 1982.

Mr. Kenny served for four years in the Marine Corps and has always lived by the Marine motto: "There’s a right way. There's a wrong way and there's the Marine way, and the Marine way is always the right way!"

He worked for Parkside in Connecticut as a marketer for their drug and alcohol programs throughout the country. He also worked at several area nursing homes as an administrator.

He loved to travel with his wife, Terry, and especially loved hiking in the glaciers of Montana. He enjoyed working out and power lifting with his good friend Bob. Jim had competed nationally, winning several first-place competitions in the Drug Free Master's Division.

He always had a great story to share with his family and friends, bringing laughter and joy to everyone! Most of all, he loved landscaping his beautiful yard by the lake in Cheshire, watching the wildlife and enjoying his morning coffee as often as he could.

We will sorely miss his laugh, stories and stubborn Irish ways!

He is survived by his loving wife, Terry Kenny of Cheshire; two daughters, Mary Bartolomeo and husband, Fran, of Oakville, Conn., and Lorraine Kenny of Naugatuck, Conn.; one son, James "Jimmy" Kenny Jr. and wife, Jessica, of Wolcott, Conn.; six grandchildren, Amy, Michael and Justin Bartolomeo, and Douglas, Donovan and Jessica Kenny; as well as his great-granddaughter, Ella Gardner.

FUNERAL NOTICE: There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Wounded Warriors Project or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St, Pittsfield, MA 01201.
