Frederick Polesak Sr.

Frederick J. Polesak Sr., 76, of Green River Road and Boynton Beach, Fla., died Friday night at his home in Florida, where he had spent the past five winters. He was a former Alford assessor and cemetery commissioner. Born in Norwalk, Conn., on Jan. 3, 1926, son of John and Annie Valka Polesak, he graduated from Norwalk High School. Mr. Polesak was a World War II Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Saufly destroyer in the South Pacific. A craftsman, he worked as a carpenter in many commercial and residential buildings in Connecticut. He also did carpentry work for Trafalgar Leather Co. in Norwalk. Mr. Polesak was a trustee of Alford Village Church. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol and worked at Butternut Ski Basin for 10 years. A Mason, he was a member of Cincinnatus Lodge AF&AM in Great Barrington. He also was a member of the West Stockbridge Sportsmen's Club, the Berkshire County Forest Wardens and the Alford Pitch Club. He enjoyed antique cars and steam railroad engines, and restored many Ford vehicles. He and his wife, the former Joan E. Reeves, were married Nov. 16, 1985, in South Egremont. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Janice Mallozzi of Norwalk; a son, Frederick Polesak Jr. of New Providence, N.J.; a sister, Bessie Trusiak of Wilbraham, and six grandchildren. The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, at 11 at Alford Village Church. Burial will follow in Osborne Cemetery. The family will receive friends tomorrow, Jan. 15, from 4 to 7 at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, during which time a Masonic Service will be conducted.
