Shirley Collette

Shirley Mae Collette, 75, of 201 East Road died yesterday at North Adams Commons on Franklin Street. Born in Greenfield on Jan. 12, 1927, daughter of John Francis Young and Gertrude Dorothy Smead Young, she attended schools in Greenfield and Athol and graduated from Athol High School in 1945. Mrs. Collette was employed as a bookkeeper for several companies, including Sprague Electric Co., Ashkar Sales Co. and the former Tally House Restaurant, all in North Adams, and the Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown. She was a member of the Harvest Christian Ministries in Bennington, Vt., the Hairpin Turners Square Dancing Club and the Northern Berkshire Rock and Mineral Club. She leaves her husband, William A. Collette, whom she married Feb. 15, 1947, in Notre Dame Church, North Adams; three daughters, Susan Margaret Hartman of Clarksburg, Donna Jean LeSure of Manassas, Va., and Rosemary Anne Benoit of Pittsfield; a sister, Virginia Sheldon of Prescott, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Marie Macek, who died Jan. 27, 1973, and a son, William John Joseph Collette, who died in infancy in 1954. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sheila Marie Macek; a son, William John Joseph Collette, and two brothers, George Edward "Buster" Young and Raymond Arthur "Sonny" Young. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Robert Lebert, pastor of the Harvest Christian Ministries, officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for the Harvest Christian Ministries through the funeral home.
