Leslie A. Martin

Leslie A. Martin, 87, of 45 River Road, Erving, died yesterday at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield. He was the father of Donald Martin, who lived in Lee for more than 25 years before moving to South Bend, Ind., nine months ago. Born in Bernardston on March 7, 1914, son of Ora and Grace James Martin, he was a graduate of Powers Institute. He was employed by Carroll's Express Trucking in Millers Falls for several years prior to retirement. Mr. Martin was a member of the Harmony Lodge AF & AM of Masons in Northfield and was a recipient of the 50-year pin. An active member of the council on Aging Affairs in Erving, he was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. His wife, the former Ruth Mayer, whom he married May 29, 1937, died in 1996. Besides his son, he leaves another son, David Martin of Summerfield, Fla.; a daughter, Joyce Piper of Westfield; a brother, Robert Martin of Glen Burnie, Md.; a sister, Lillian Dalton of Gill; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. at KIDDER FUNERAL HOME, 1 Parker Ave., Northfield, with the Rev. Lloyd Parrill, pastor of Trinitarian Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Center Cemetery, Bernardston. Calling hours are Friday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held Friday at 7:30.
