Joan Schnelle

Joan Schnelle, 86, of Westport, Conn., died Jan. 8 at home. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 22, 1915, daughter of Michael H. and Elizabeth Spaniol Roberts, she graduated from Dean Junior College in Franklin. She also graduated from Katherine Gibbs School. A communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Weston, Conn., Mrs. Schnelle was a former volunteer with the Coleytown Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Westport Women's Club and an active member of the Dean Alumni Association. She enjoyed football and baseball, especially the Mets and Yankees. Her husband, Charles S. Schnelle, whom she married in 1932, died in 1991. She leaves a daughter, Michael Ann Hay of Westport; four grandchildren, and three great-grandsons. She was predeceased by a son, Charles S. Schnelle Jr.
