Janice C. Tresp, 75

SHEFFIELD, Mass. – Janice C. Tresp, 75, a longtime resident of Great Barrington and Sheffield passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, Conn.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1945, the daughter of the late Kenneth and Dolores Schieven Peterson. She married the love of her life, Dr. Dennis Faller Tresp on September 6, 1969, in Sheboygan, Wis.

The couple moved to Northern California's Hoopa Indian Reservation for four years while Denny practiced general medicine with the local tribe. In 1977 they moved to Connecticut for three years while he completed his residency before settling in Great Barrington in 1980.

Jan was the matriarch of her family. She was also a motherly figure to many who knew and loved her. She always showed up for her family—she never missed a sporting event, a recital, or a play. If you were loved by Jan, you knew she was in the audience.

Jan is survived by her two sons, Crispin Tresp and his wife Mary of Lenox, and Casey Tresp and his wife Ashley of Cheshire, Conn., and her three grandchildren, Cameron, Audra, and Evan. She is also survived by her two brothers, Randy Peterson and his wife Diane of Crusco, NC, Kenneth Peterson and his wife Russelyn of Sheboygan, Wis., and her brother-in-law, Jim Thiesfeld and his wife Linda of Park Rapids, Min. as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends too numerous to mention.

Jan was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Dennis Faller Tresp, her daughter, Erin Elizabeth Tresp, and her sister, Suzanne Thiesfeld.

SERVICES – The family will receive friends on Friday, July 30 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington.
