Emma R. Blake

Emma R. Blake, 89, formerly of 9 Leslie Ave., died yesterday at Craneville Place in Dalton, where she had resided for 2 1/2 years. Born in Dalton on Aug. 15, 1911, daughter of Rudolph J. and Emma Dietz Stengl, she attended schools in Dalton. Mrs. Blake was a communicant of St. Charles' Church in Pittsfield and was a member of the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind, the Women's Club and Lanesboro Senior Citizens. She enjoyed needlework, embroidery and nature. Her husband, Leonard A. Blake, whom she married July 29, 1953, died Nov. 4, 1982. She leaves two daughters, Rita R. Chipani of Pittsfield and Bette Jane Richardson of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9 at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton with the Rev. John Koonz, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Dalton. There will be no calling hours. She was the beloved grandmother of Elena Chipani of Delray Beach, Fla., Karen Howell of Port St. Lucie, Kim Piader of Medford, Ore., and Carol Murray of Fayetteville, N.C.; beloved great-grandmother of Theresa Bruno, Victoria Gray, Alexandria Gray, Robert McKeever, Steven McKeever, Brian Gray, Ayla Piader and Nathan Piader. She was predeceased by a beloved grandson, Michael David Gray, on Sept. 28, 1999. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind or to the Elizabeth Freeman Center. The BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226 is in charge of arrangements.
