Carl W.A. Carlson

Carl W.A. Carlson, 59, of Wells Road, Sherwood Forest, died Tuesday at Providence Care Center in Lenox. Born in Washington, D.C., on May 3, 1942, son of Carl and Kate Hall Carlson, he was a 1959 graduate of Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Md., and a 1963 graduate of Middlebury (Vt.) College. He later received his master's degree in Latin and Greek classics from the University of Illinois. He resided in North Salem, N.Y., from 1978 until moving to Becket in 1993. While in New York, he worked as a numismatist for Stack's Rare Coins and Antiques in New York City for several years, retiring in 1992. A member of St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, history, rare coin collecting and camping with his family. He leaves his wife, the former Patricia Bijur; three daughters, Valerie B. Carlson of Bethesda, Malinda H. Carlson of Tyngsboro and Larissa H. O'Neil of South Salem, N.Y., and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 at St. George's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Canon Noel A. Bailey, rector, officiating. KELLY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
