Lorraine Naomi (Gagnon) Degere

Mrs. Lorraine Naomi (Gagnon) Degere, 72, of 75 Commercial St., Adams and earlier of 23 Enterprise St., Adams, died Saturday evening at Center For Optimum Care in Pittsfield where she had been a client for several years. Mrs. Degere was born in Adams on July 7th, 1928. She was the daughter of Emeri Gagnon & & Leona (Champeney) Gagnon. She attended the former Notre Dame Parochial School of Adams and was a student in the former C.T. Plunket School, also of Adams. Mrs. Degere left the area to pursue her education at Wilfred Academy in Boston where she was a member of the Class of ’46. Mrs. Degere early on was an employee of the former Berkshire Mills. Later she journeyed to Northampton MA and was a member of the domestic staff at Smith College. Returning to the Berkshires, she secured a position with Molly’s Bakery of North Adams. In May of 1958,upon her marriage to Richard W. Degere in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church; she became a homemaker, bringing up her family in Adams. A communicant of Notre Dame-St. Thomas Parish, she was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and also spent her leisure hours knitting for the family. Besides her husband of Adams, she is survived by a son: Glenn E. Degere of Adams: a brother Donald E. Gagnon of Pittsfield. She was predeceased by 2 infant sons: Mark & Gary Degere who died in 1961 & ‘63 respectively. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, January 31st, at 10 am in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church Adams. A prayer service will precede the Liturgy. It will be offerred Wednesday at 9:30 am in the McBride Funeral Home 2 - 8 Liberty St., Adams. Burial will follow the Mass, in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours at the McBride Funeral Home will be Tuesday from 4 - 7 pm. The family suggests memorial donations to the Maple Grove Civic Club Scholarship Fund.
