Sidney Richard Benoit, 64, of 804 Daniels Road died Tuesday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted after being stricken earlier at home. Born in North Adams on Aug. 8, 1937, son of the late Clifford D. and Mary Ann Hall Benoit, he attended North Adams schools, including the former St. Joseph Parochial School, until his family moved to Clarksburg, where he also attended schools. Mr. Benoit began his career as a truck driver with various trucking firms in the Northern Berkshire area. He later was employed with the Krutiak Lumber Co. of Clarksburg and Potvin Lumber Co. of Stamford, Vt., until his retirement due to ill health. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He enjoyed nature walks and fishing. He leaves his wife of 45 years, the former Eleanor Mary Levesque, whom he married July 24, 1957, in Stamford; a son, Sidney Cliffford Benoit of North Adams; a sister, Pearl Benoit Tatro of Stamford; two brothers, Clifford Benoit and David Benoit, both of North Adams, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Ralph Benoit, who died in September 1977, sisters Jennie Modena, Mary Caprari, Elaine Angeli and Eunice DiGennaro; and brothers Eugene Benoit, George Benoit, Donald Benoit and Monte Benoit. Private funeral services will take place Thursday, Feb. 21, at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Michael Twardzik, pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams, officiating. Burial in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. No calling hours. Memorial donations suggested for any charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home.
