Denise L. Haring, 73

ADAMS, Mass. —

Denise Louise Haring, 73, of Adams, died peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Williamstown Commons.

She was born in Westfield on June 6, 1951, daughter of the late Willard and Phyllis (Guild) Haring. She attended schools in Middlefield until moving to Adams and graduated from the former Adams Memorial High School with the class of 1969.

Denise ran her home daycare, the former Kiddie Hill Daycare in Adams, for many years, taking care of dozens of children. She was a foster parent from 1993 to 2017, providing a home for approximately 140 foster children in that period. Most recently she drove for Dufour Bus Company. In her early career, she worked as a seamstress for the former Waverly Fabrics and as an office manager for Cord Master Engineering.

Denise was an avid gardener and loved watching the birds at her feeders. She spent many summers camping in her RV while visiting family in Vermont. She frequented the little town fairs with her sister where she especially liked to watch the ox pulls. She could often be found creating handmade crafts for her family and friends, and even taught one of her grandsons to sew. Denise liked playing cards and had regular Pitch games with her brother and a group of friends. She tried her luck at the Shriner's BINGO events, and developed a liking for visiting the MGM casino. For several years she bowled in Candlepin Leagues and played for local Adult Softball Leagues. She was a member of the Eagle’s Club in North Adams. She gave her children oreos for Christmas (which they always looked forward to!), had a quick wit and contagious sense of humor, and will truly be missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Bobbi Tassone (Kyle Richardson) of Adams, Chloe Matthews (Tylor Viger) of Hudson Falls, NY, and Tiffany Mize of Adams; her son, Ryan Matthews of Pittsfield; her sister Lee Myers of Chester; her brother Jack Haring of Savoy; her grandchildren, Anthony Tassone of Denver, CO, Matthew Tassone of Adams and Norah Newlands (Carter Dutton) of Belmont, NH; her son-in-law Brian Tassone of Adams and her nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Billy Newlands, who died on July 13, 2021.

At Denise’s request, funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Pop Cares, P.O. Box 482, Williamstown, MA 01267.

The PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, is in charge of arrangements.

I am so very sorry to hear of Denise's passing. She was such a sweet lady. I've known her since we worked together at Waverly during the 70's, and then later worked together at DuFour Bus Co. We had so much fun together just chatting and going out to lunch. She will be sadly missed. Rest in peace, Denise.

As children, my sister, Barbara, and I spent countless hours visiting Denise and Lee, either at our home in Worthington or at our Gram Moeller’s house in West Springfield. Some of my best memories are of the four of us climbing trees, wading in our brook, walking along stone walls and exploring fields, ponds and woods. I have always been in awe of Denise’s kindness and generosity. She has a special place in my heart.
