Rev. Peter Hickey

The Rev. Peter D. Hickey, 63, a Jesuit and a teacher at Boston College High School, died Monday just before classes. Born in Great Barrington, he graduated from Boston College in 1960. He worked as a lay missionary volunteer with the Jesuits in Kingston, Jamaica, and then entered the order's new novitiate seminary in Lenox. After earning a master's degree in philosophy, he taught for three years at Fairfield Preparatory School in Fairfield, Conn. He did further studies at Weston School of Theology in Cambridge and was ordained in 1976. He taught English at Boston College High School for 28 years. On Sundays, Father Hickey offered the 9 a.m. Eucharist at St. Pius Church in Hyde Park. He leaves a brother, Paul J. Hickey, retired director of Hickey-Birches Funeral Home in Great Barrington. "He loved his Catholic faith; loved his Jesuit priesthood; loved BC High, and loved teaching." The funeral Mass will be at St. Ignatius Church, Chestnut Hill, at noon on Saturday, March 2. Burial will follow at Campion Center, Weston. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 at Boston College High School. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peter D. Hickey, SJ Scholarship, at Boston College High School, 150 Morrissey Blvd., Dorchester, MA 02125. The BRADY & FALLON FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
