ADAMS, Mass. —  

Mr. Frederic C. Chapman, 78, of Adams, died on Monday, May 26, 2025, at his home after a courageous battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

He was born in Denver, Colorado on July 18, 1946, son of the late Frank and Eleanor (Magnuson) Chapman. He attended schools in Denver.

Mr. Chapman was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the United States Air Force until receiving his honorable discharge as a Sergeant in 1970.

He last worked as a cashier for The Home Depot in Pittsfield for 8 years where he was the Cashier of the Year at least three times, District Cashier and Regional Cashier of the Year once each out of thousands of cashiers throughout the region. He won Cashier of the month at least 13 times and had many store, district, regional and corporate recognition awards for stellar performance. Fred always told his family if he made a customer smile then he was doing his job. Earlier he had worked for the Big Y Supermarket in Pittsfield for 22 years. When Fred wasn't working, he liked to create wooden shelves in his safe haven of a garage.

His wife, Constance (Dupre`) Merriam-Chapman, whom he married on August 17, 2002, died on December 26, 2020.

He is survived by six stepsons, Leo Robillard and his wife Marilyn, Steven Robillard, Daniel Robillard, David Robillard and his wife Ruth, Rick Robillard and his wife Sandy and Ronald Russell and his wife Jamie; twenty two grandchildren and by thirty great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his great grandson, Kane Robillard.

The family would like to thank his Granddaughter Naomi Munn for being his care giver during the last five months.

Calling hours are Monday from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams. A prayer service will be held during the visitation at 5:00 P.M.

Burial will be at a later date.
