Richard "Dick" Barrett, 83

CHESHIRE, Mass. —  

Mr. Richard “Dick” Barrett, 83, of Cheshire, died on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield after a short bout with liver cancer.

He was born in North Adams on February 2, 1942, son of the late John and Louise (Renwick) Barrett Dupre and his stepfather Lucien Dupre. He attended schools in North Adams and graduated from the former St. Joseph’s High School in 1960.

Mr. Barrett was a veteran of the United States Army having enlisted in 1963, actively serving until 1966. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He also served in the Army National Guard, serving until 1979 before being honorably discharged.

Dick worked as a machinist for the General Electric Company in Pittsfield then in Schenectady, NY until his retirement. He had also been part owner and operator of the former D&D Texaco on River Street in North Adams, along with his business partner, the late David Lewis.

He is survived by his two sons, John Barrett and his wife Sara of Pittsfield and James Barrett and his significant other Shealee Cooke of North Adams; his brother Edward Dupre of Florida, MA; four grandchildren, Ty, Hayden, Madilene and Jackson Barrett and by his niece Bonez Dupre.

He was predeceased by his brother Richard Dupre.

Calling hours are Thursday, June 5th from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams.
