Casimer Gliwski

Casimer Gliwski, 79, of 4 Simon Ave. died Sunday evening at Williamstown Commons. Born in Adams on Aug. 3, 1922, son of John and Katherine Czech Gliwski, he attended St. Stanislaus' School and the former Adams High School. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with Battery D of the 486th Coast Artillery. He served in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and in Central Europe. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was honorably discharged as a fifth-grade tech-nician in 1945. Mr. Gliwski was employed as a supervisor at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams until retiring in 1985 after 44 years of service. He then worked as a custodian at Notre Dame Church for 13 years, until becoming ill several years ago. He was a communicant of the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas, where he served as an usher and collector for many years. He also chaired the parish bingo committee for several years. He and his wife, the former Jeannine A. Lawrence, were married Nov. 24, 1955, in Notre Dame Church by the late Monsignor Joseph Smith and the Rev. William Clermont, AA. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Catherine Clay of Ossipee, N.H.; a brother, Walter Gliwski of Adams; a sister, Blanche Kochanski of Adams, and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Thaddeus and Frederick Gliwski, and five sisters, Helen Gliwski, Veronica Czarnecki, Susanna Brozyna, Anna Burgess and Jean Kowal. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:15 from AUGE-PACIOREK-SIMMONS Funeral Home, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 5 to 8. Memorial donations may be made to the Parish of Notre Dame-St. Thomas, Adams Ambulance Service or to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the funeral home.
