Diane M. Gregalis, 82

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Diane M. (Deraway) Gregalis was born in Pittsfield to parents Raymond H. and Margaret (Felix) Deraway on Aug. 6, 1942.

She passed away on June 4, 2025 in Hyannis.  She grew up on Hudson Brook Farm Clarksburg, the oldest of six siblings being Raymond (Butch) Deraway (Elizabeth) and Marcia Deraway Swenson (Chris) (both deceased), Cheryl Deraway Martin (Raymond), Pamela Deraway Pearson (Russell, deceased) and David Deraway (Bonnie).

In October 1961, Diane married Donald C. Gregalis (deceased), in St. Francis Church. They were married for over 60 years. In more recent years, they divided their time between homes in the summer in South Dennis and in the winter in Palm City, Fla. In their younger years, Diane and her husband built their dream home in the woods of Clarksburg, adjacent to her parents' family farm.

She attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High in 1960. Diane attended Bay Path College and later graduated from the accounting program at LaSalle University.

Diane was employed as a bookkeeper for her father who owned General Steel Company. She also provided accounting services for her husband's hair salon business, Coiffures by Don. Diane worked for over 25 years as an accountant and internal auditor at North Adams Regional Hospital. She had many work girlfriends and participated in their shopping excursions, cruise adventures and golf outings.

Diane's passions were spending time with her grandchildren and her siblings. She loved travel, nature, the beach, skiing, golf, dining out, and concerts.   She was easily found in the presence of her two sisters, Cheryl and Pam, laughing, reminiscing, enjoying the beach and traveling.  After Don passed, she enjoyed the company of Pam while wintering in Florida.  She often came back home to visit the Berkshires where she spent making lasting memories with her siblings who lovingly called her Dee Dee.  She was an adoring fan of the Saratoga horse races, her beloved Boston Red Sox and the NE Patriots.

Diane will be sadly missed by all that knew her. She was a bright light in everyone’s life and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled.  She will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the way she made everyone around her feel loved. Her spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of her family and friends.

She leaves two daughters, Kimberly Granatino of Hingham, MA and Lisa Gallo (Steven), of Franklin, MA and 5 grandchildren, Joseph (Joey) Granatino II, Kevin Granatino, and Nicole Granatino Monroe, (William); and Marissa Gallo Ferrell (Sean), and Nicholas Gallo.

Private services were held June 20, 2025 for Diane M. (Deraway) Gregalis at the family lot in Southview Cemetery, North Adams in the loving presence of the Deraway Family.

I worked with Diane for many years at NARH. She was fun to be around always smiling. Whenever I visited friends at the Cape I would call her and we would meet for lunch. I am sad to hear of her passing. My condolences to her family
