Claudia Elaine Hewitt, 80

Claudia Elaine (Oakes) Hewitt, 80 of Clarksburg, MA, died on Sunday, July 6 at home surrounded by her family. Elaine has been reunited with her husband, Carl, who we know was waiting for her with open arms.

Elaine was born on January 5, 1945 to Helen (Dowdy) Oakes Fournier and George Raymond Oakes in Shephard, Virginia. She attended schools in North Adams and graduated from Drury High School in 1963.

Elaine met her husband Carlton A. Hewitt Sr. while in high school and they got married on September 7, 1963.

She worked for the Clarksburg Elementary School and the Town of Clarksburg. Elaine also worked as a medical assistant, a job which she loved, until she retired to take care of her first grandchild. She ran a daycare for many years after this until fully retiring. She was actively involved in the community with the Clarksburg PTG and the Briggsville Women's Club. She was a member of multiple bowling leagues at Mt Greylock Bowl and she enjoyed line dancing.

Family meant the world to Elaine. She loved nothing more than spending time with her loved ones.

Elaine would light up any room she entered with her warm smile and quick wit. She had the greenest thumb of anyone we knew. She could nurse any plant back to perfect health. She loved cooking and baking. Anyone who had anything she made can attest that she was a fantastic baker and cook. Whoopie pies were her specialty and absolutely everyone's favorite. Elaine enjoyed many creative hobbies with crocheting being her favorite. She loved crocheting blankets and in recent years, crocheted many hats which she donated to the Phelps Cancer Center.

Elaine leaves behind three loving children, Brenda Vallone and her husband Paul of Clarksburg, Carlton A. Hewitt Jr. and his wife Peggy of Forest, VA, and Kevin Hewitt of Clarksburg. Elaine leaves four grandchildren, Amanda and Brandon Vallone and Nicholas and Ashley Hewitt. Elaine leaves one sister Helen Perry, four brothers Charles, Raymond, Chester, and George Oakes, a half-sister Philomene Belair, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Claudia Elaine Hewitt will take place on Wednesday July 16, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will follow in the family plot in Clarksburg Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 4PM to 6PM. Memorial donations are suggested for the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Company or HospiceCare in The Berkshires through the funeral home.
