Gladys Calderwood

Gladys Calderwood, 83, of 153 Ridgeway Ave. died Sunday evening at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Naugatuck, Conn., on Oct. 14, 1917, daughter of Charles and Agatha Reagan Weaving, she graduated from Winsted (Conn.) High School. She moved to Pittsfield in 1942 and graduated from the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. Mrs. Calderwood was employed by BMC as a registered nurse, retiring in 1985 after 20 years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was active in church functions. She was also a member of the PEO Sisterhood and St. Luke's Alumni Association, and was a volunteer at Hancock Shaker Village and for the American Red Cross. Her husband, Herbert H. Calderwood, whom she married June 29, 1946, died Jan. 15, 1996. She leaves two sons, William C. Calderwood of Lanesboro and Stephen D. Calderwood of Grass Elley, Calif.; a daughter, Shirley A. Fisher of Middletown, R.I.; a sister, Gertrude Kuchta of Canton, Ohio, and seven grandchildren. Another son, Robert B. Calderwood, died Oct. 7, 1994. The funeral will be Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 12:15 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with services at 1 at First United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Roger Davis, pastor. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery at a later date. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hancock Shaker Village or to First United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home.
