Joel W. Pierce

Joel W. "Mike" Pierce, 91, of 1100 Mohawk Trail died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he was admitted Sunday. Born in Bennington, Vt., on Feb. 14, 1911, son of Joel W. and Blanche Woodard Pierce, he graduated from the former Bennington High School. He was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams as a division manager for 45 years until retiring in 1976. Mr. Pierce was a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club, the North Adams Lodge of Elks and the Masonic Lodge. A member of the North Adams Country Club, he was a longtime member of its board of directors and was a former president of the club. He had a pilot's license and enjoyed skiing and golf. He leaves his wife, the former Beatrice Roy, whom he married June 2, 1934, in Notre Dame Church; a brother, Harold Pierce of Pownal, Vt.; a sister, Harriet Hart of Ramsey, N.J., and a stepbrother, Joel E. Pierce of Bennington. Two sisters and six brothers are deceased, including Lillian Colo, Janice Carmabaum, and Alfred, John, Francis, Ormel, William and Carl Pierce. The funeral will be Thursday at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., with burial in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the North Adams Regional Hospital Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
