Elizabeth DiPierro

Elizabeth L. "Betty" DiPierro, 87, of 600 Main St. died Tuesday at home. Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 3, 1914, daughter of Everton and Edna Hooper Parker, she attended schools in Dalton and Cummington and was a graduate of Williamsburg High School. She had resided in Hinsdale for many years before moving to Dalton in 1993. A homemaker, she was a member of the Hinsdale Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing, and was an avid collector of teddy bears. Her husband, Mariano L. DiPierro, whom she married April 25, 1935, died June 4, 1984. She leaves two sons, Albert E. DiPiro of Hyde Park and Frank L. DiPierro of Hinsdale; a daughter, Sandra L. Blessing of Pittsfield; two brothers, Ernest Parker of Florence and Eugene Parker of the state of Florida; two sisters, Ruby Higgins of West Chesterfield and Shirley Cornwell of Hinsdale; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Joseph M. DiPiro of Boston, who died in 1974, and a daughter, Miriam DiPiro of Boston, who died in 1985. Services will be Saturday at 10 at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 Main St., Dalton, with the Rev. Irene Jones officiating. Burial will be in the spring in Maple Street Cemetery in Hinsdale. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 at the Dery-Foley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dalton Fire Department or to the Dalton Police Association, both in care of the funeral home.
