Evelyn Rochelo, 87

ADAMS, Mass. — Evelyn Elaine (Pierce) Rochelo, 87, of Suwanee, Ga., a longtime resident of Adams and North Adams; passed away on Sept. 26, 2025.

She died at home after a short illness, surrounded by her family.

Evelyn was born on Sept. 28, 1937, in Adams to Oliver and Marion Pierce.

Evelyn was close to her family and loved her children beyond measure. She loved Donald with all her heart; the two were very rarely apart. She maintained strong and meaningful relationships with her brothers, with whom she shared numerous cherished experiences throughout both childhood and adulthood.

Evelyn loved country music; her and Donald could be found dancing at various locations while they followed the band Aged in the Hills. She and Donald performed with two-line dancing groups, Country Line Dancers and Berkshire Line dancers, traveling around performing at various events around New England. She also took pleasure in creating ceramics and engaging in craft projects involving plastic canvases. She created a variety of plastic canvas projects such as Kleenex box covers, drink coasters, clocks, baby albums, and holiday decorations, with a special focus on Christmas and Halloween, her two favorite holidays.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Gerald Rochelo; her daughter, Penny Thornton and her husband, Quillian; honorary daughter Janet O'Neil; her grandchildren, Jonathon Rochelo (Cass) and Alycia Rochelo (Paul); six great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage, as well as her brothers Wilfred, Alfred, and Charles Pierce. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, 10 AM at St. Ann's Church in Lenox. Burial will follow in St. Ann's Cemetery.
