Michelle Thaisz, 72

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Michelle Thaisz, of Williamstown, MA passed away on December 1st at the age of 72. Michelle was born in 1952 in Rochester, NY. One of four children, she grew up in Henrietta NY. After high school she attended the State University of New York at Fredonia, graduating in 1974 with a BA in Education.
She met her soulmate Mark in Glens Falls NY and was married for 50 beautiful years. Together they moved to South Williamstown in 1976, fell in love with the community, and never left. She was dedicated to the Second Congregational Church, singing in the choir and serving the church in various capacities. Family was Michelle’s greatest passion. Together with Mark, she organized the annual Thaisz/Villani family reunion for decades. Professionally, Michelle wore many hats. Her infectious personality and gift for conversation made her an excellent saleswoman. With her friend Carolyn Umlauf by her side, they started the Sloan Tavern Mustard Company, making delicious Honeysuckle Mustard for many years. While raising her two sons, Matt and Gabe, she loved watching them play sports, in particular hockey. “Mickey” as her friends called her, was an avid gardener of flowers, vegetables, and fruits which she canned for the enjoyment of family and friends. For 15 years, it was a fall tradition for “Mooma” to bring large pumpkins to each of her five grandchildren. In her later years, Michelle loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoying an evening on the porch with family and friends.
She is survived by her sons Matthew (Kathryn) of West Hartford, CT and Gabriel (Heather) of Hopkinton, MA, her five grandsons Nick, Finn, AJ, Boden, and Cooper, her sisters Theresa Wegman, and Marietta (Pete) Nye, sister-in- law Lesia Thaisz, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
