Joseph Furcinite Sr.,

Joseph D. Furcinite Sr., 85, of 33 Root Place died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on March 17, 1915, son of Dominic and Barbara Parise Furcinite, he attended local schools. He was a World War II Navy veteran. Mr. Furcinite was a self-employed plumber, carpenter and electrician for many years. He also worked for Ward S. Hatch Plumbing & Heating in New Lebanon, N.Y., and at Berkshire Farm for Boys. He retired in 1998. He was a member of the Italian American Club, Italian American War Veterans Post 75 and UNICO of Pittsfield, and a former member of Berkshire Hills Country Club. He enjoyed gardening and playing golf, and played in many charity tournaments. He leaves a son, Joseph D. Furcinite Jr. of Santa Maria, Calif.; two daughters, Sandra G. Rothrock of New Lebanon and Robin Thomas of Pittsfield; a brother, Anthony Furcinite of Pittsfield; two sisters, Mary Cornock and Catherine McKeon, both of Pittsfield; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and his companion of 35 years, Rita Duginski, with whom he resided. He was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Engel. The funeral will be Thursday, Feb. 1, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Mr. Furcinite is survived by his companion of 35 years, Rita Duginski, and his six adored grandchildren, Steven J. Rothrock, Stacey R. Wallace, Rebecca G. Rothrock, Brandy M. Chicoine, Paul E. Engel and Sue Ann Engel. Also, his beloved extended family members, William Baumgartner, Maryann Bassett, Philip Litano Jr., Lisa Litano, Michael Baumgartner, Max Baumgartner, Brent Baumgartner, Brenda O'Brien and Mark Baumgartner. He was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Engel, and three brothers, Dominic, Charles and John Furcinite, and three sisters, Barbara Lipari, and Mary and Catherine Furcinite.
