Roger Gould, 83

Roger Gould May 12, 1942 - November 23, 2025

Roger Gould, 83, of Williamstown, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2025. Born in the Bronx, New York, Roger lived a life defined by his warmth, kindness, and deep love for his family and community.

Roger leaves behind his beloved wife of 47 years, Patricia Gould, whom he married on July 22,1978. He is survived by his son, Scott Charland and his wife Tracie, his daughter Nicky Zabetian and her husband Mahboud, and five adored grandchildren: Emma and Tessa Charland, and Zoe, Xander, and Aia Zabetian.

Roger and Pat both attended the University of Vermont, where they met and fell in love. Though life took them on separate paths after graduation, they reunited in 1977 and their love for each other became the foundation for a beautiful life together.

A skilled oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Roger built a successful practice where he was known for his exceptional bedside manner. Even after a stroke in 2003 ended his medical career, he remained "Doc" to everyone in town, never losing his genuine interest in people's lives. Roger never failed to ask "How are you?" because he truly always wanted to know the answer.

Roger and Pat created a warm and welcoming home on Torrey Woods Road, affectionately known as "Camp Gould" by extended family and friends. The property, always shared with a loving menagerie of dogs, cats, and horses, was the backdrop for countless cherished memories—including their own backyard wedding and, twenty years later, hosting Nicky and Mahboud's wedding reception.

A talented cook, skilled handyman and avid gardener, Roger drove his tractor, mended fences and tended his gardens well into his later years. He had a passionate love for life, demonstrated by a fantastic sense of humor, a booming laugh and an absolutely insatiable sweet tooth.

Most of all, Roger will be remembered for his gentle, caring soul and the boundless love he had for his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. His engaging warmth, kindness, and genuine love for others has left an indelible mark on all those lucky enough to have known him.

He is gone, but he will never be forgotten.

Recollections & Sympathy For the Family
Post Comment
Dear Pat and family, As a former neighbor for many years Dr. Gould was special. He was friendly, kind and loved horses. That's all it took for our family to respect and love him. He was good to my parents and brothers when they ran the riding stable and always said "hi" to me when I was out riding. We have lost a wonderful man and I wanted you to know how we felt. Great friend and neighbor. My deepest Sympathy,

Roger and I came from the same “hood” in The Bronx. It was much later that I met him because he and Pat and my partner, Ian Kirby, had a close friendship that dated back to the 1970s. Roger was a dear and treasured friend as is Pat. His smiling face, warmth and incredible sense of humor are so missed. Rog, Rest in Peace. You are someone i shall forever miss.

Roger Gould…..What a kind, friendly, funny, intelligent man. These traits apply to his wonderful wife also. I have always felt fortunate to have gotten to know both of them.

I dealt with Dr. Gould on many occasions and according to him I had " horse teeth".. Most people would be upset by that but he made me laugh non-stop. When I was doing rounds for nursing right before his stroke it was a funniest thing I ever went through. Just his attitude was hysterical. He will be missed. He was a wonderful man. God speed Dr. Gould

I will miss Dr. Gould. He would come to the drive-up window and always had a smile on his face. He was so kind to me. He will be extremely missed. Good thought to his family and friends. May happy memories bring you comfort at this difficult time.

There was this day in Aubuchon's., I was three deep in line. There was this man at the head of the line and he was laughing and carrying on with the cashier. , asking about his family etc. We all waited patiently because I think we all knew who it was. That laugh was unmistakable. Those genuine questions about the cashiers family were, well, genuine. Roger was at the head of that line and we all smiled......To Pat and family we lost a sweet, sweet man. My condolences.

My sincere condolences to the Gould Family in this time of need. I met Roger(Doc) over 20 yrs ago while working at Hot Tomatoes in Williamstown. He would always frequent the restaurant to get his bagels. I had so much respect for him as I would always call him Dr. Gould whenever I saw him out and about it at the Market. I remember him telling me that I could call him Roger, I could never call him by his first name. He was such a good person and I am glad to have known him and will always remember him.

Yes, e we were lucky enough know “Doc” as he would frequent our office regularly and always brought his sense of humor along always concerned with how we were all doing as well as our families and was always genuine with his comments. When he left the area for a short time we would still talk and always wonder how he was doing and one day the door opened and a voice said, “I’m back” with such a big smile and hug, he was so happy to be as he would say “home.” We are sure he will be missed by many but never forgotten!
