Jeannette Holmes, 100

Jeannette C. (Lanoue) Holmes, 100 years old of North Adams, died at the Williamstown Commons on Saturday, April 4, 2026. She was born on June 6, 1925, a daughter of the late Prudent and Mary (Couture) Lanoue. Jeannette attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School with the Class of 1943. She married the late John James Holmes on June 14, 1947, at the St. Francis of Assisi Church.
First employed with the New England Telephone Company, she later worked with the Gale Shoe Company. She became a Main Street fixture working at Boston Store, Forbes and Wallace, England Brothers and McClelland’s, retiring in 1990. She was a former communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church then became an active member at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
On her 100th birthday, she received a proclamation from the Mayor of North Adams, honoring her vibrant spirit as a tap dancer, lover of jazz music, service to the community and her church, and dedication to her family. She was recently “deputized” as a North Street police officer after being the unofficial neighborhood watch for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Jacqueline A. Geoffrion and spouse Louis of Adams; her son, James C. Holmes and spouse Denise Dubreuil of North Adams; grandchildren, Jessica Tatro (EJay) of Stamford, Stephany Holmes of Clarksburg, and Allyson Holmes (Brent) of Pittsfield; great grandchildren, Rylee Tatro, Reed Tatro, and Macy Onorato; and many nieces. She is predeceased by her husband, John Holmes; sisters Beatrice Wustrack, Margaret Demo, and Alice Beauchamp; and brothers, William Lanoue, Russell Lanoue, Chester Lanoue, and Alfred Lanoue.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held for Jeannette Holmes at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Church in North Adams. Calling hours will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Flynn & Dagnoli CENTRAL CHAPEL at 74 Marshall Street, North Adams, MA.
