NORTH ADAMS, Mass. —  Francis John “Frank” Maxymillian, 90 of North Adams, MA died Saturday April 25, 2026 at North Adams Regional Hospital.

He was born in North Adams, MA on May 18, 1935, a son of Frank John Maxymillian and Cecilia E. (Paolucci) Maxymillian. He graduated from Drury High School.

Frank was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Navy from 1953 to 1957. During his Navy service, he was part of the crew that set the record for a continuous flight for an airship. On March 15, 1957, “Snow Bird” landed at NAS Key West. The voyage took 264.2 hours and covered a distance of 9,448 miles. No airship of any type had ever flown that far or remained aloft that long without refueling and that record stands today.

Frank was employed as an electronics engineer at Sprague Electric Co and retired from Hipotronics in Brewster, NY. Frank was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He was a family man who did an amazing job providing for and guiding his family through the trials and tribulations of life.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ethel (Hyndman) Maxymillian whom he married on November 6, 1954 and one son, Francis John Maxymillian Jr of High Island, TX and three daughters, Laurie Jeanne Maxymillian of North Adams; Debra Lynne Dean of Stamford, VT and Terribeth Maxymillian of Lake Placid, NY. He also leaves four grandchildren including Hollie Louise Maxymillian, Andrew Jason Maxymillian Wheeler, Joseph Thomas Dean, Katie Leigh Bishop, and six great grandchildren including Amelia, Olivia, Addison, Harper, Kris and Garrett and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Julia Wolfrum and Loretta Chesbro.
