ADAMS, Mass. — It is with deep sorrow that we announce that Joan F. (Pelczynski) Haddad, passed away after a struggle with dementia at Memorial Hospital in Meramar, Florida.  

The family wish to express a special thanks to her niece, Christina Poole Johnson for her dedicated expert care for Joan during her illness.

Joan graduated from Adams Memorial High School in 1957.

Joan was born and raised in Adams, Massachusetts, and lived most of her married life in North Adams.   Joan was the daughter of Stanley and Joan Pelczynski of Adams. After her retirement, she and her husband Bill moved to Davie, Florida and enjoyed its vibrant lifestyle and warmer weather until her death. 

She was an avid reader with a zest for writing and documenting.  Joan loved to travel, especially on cruises with her husband.  She enjoyed documenting all of the ports of call, researching the history and culture of Spain, Russia, Croatia, Italy, Canary Islands, The Grand Caymans, The Gambia in Africa, Dubrovnik, Turkey, Isreal and so many others.  Travel was the highlight of her life. 

She was last employed by the Town of Adams as Grants Manager, achieving many improvements for homeowners as well as projects for the town.  Her achievements in assisting Adams residents with their projects left her with an uplifting satisfaction.

Joan graduated from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts with a degree that provided her the ability to teach 4th and 5th grades at Fisher Elementary School in Arlington, Vermont. Previously, Joan was also employed for several years for Sprague Electric.  

She leaves behind her husband Bill, with whom she was married for 65 years.  Others include her sisters Dolly Kolis and Barbara Ziemba of Adams, a stepbrother William Herman of California and many in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her sister Helen Poole of Davie, Florida, a stepmother, Harriet Herman of Adams, Anne Babula Pelczynski of Port St. Lucie Florida, and her brothers-in-law Victor Ziemba and Theadore Kolis of Adams.

As per her wishes, there will be no services.  Her cremated remains will be buried at a later date in Polish Cemetery in Adams, along with her parents.  Donations may be made to the Adams Historical Society or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
