Simeon Decelles

Simeon H. Decelles, 90, of 87 Quirico Drive died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 12, 1912, son of Joseph A.O. and Victoria Rheaume Decelles, he was a 1930 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1934 with a degree in chemical engineering. He was employed by General Electric Co. as a chemical engineer from 1934 to 1949. He was employed since 1950 as an insurance agent for Equitable Life Assurance Society, where he was still actively employed at the time of his death. He was also a certified financial consultant. Mr. Decelles was a communicant of St. Teresa's Church. He was a member of the Exchange Club for many years and served as a former vice president, president and district governor. Active in community affairs, he had been a member of the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Appeals, Political Action Committee, Berkshire County Chamber of Commerce and the board of directors of Hillcrest Hospital. His wife, the former Eva I. Dupre, whom he married in November 1936, died Jan. 28, 1989. He leaves a daughter, Sylvia C. Cohen of Boise, Idaho; two sons, Henry Decelles of Pittsfield and Paul G. Decelles, Ph.D., of Lawrence, Kan.; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Services will be Friday, March 15, at 9:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Teresa's Church, celebrated by the Rev. John J. Varley, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, March 14, from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in care of Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
