Peter Kinnas Sr.,

Peter Stephen Kinnas Sr., 50, of 107 West Union St., owner of Kinnas Electric Co., died Monday at Berkshire Medical of cancer. Born in Pittsfield on March 21, 1950, son of Stephen and Sophia Gorney Kinnas, he was a 1968 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He also graduated from Berkshire Community College and took many courses at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. A master electrician, Mr. Kinnas established his business in 1984. Before that, he was employed by Hill Engineering in Dalton as an electrical engineer for several years. He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church, where he was active in church affairs, and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 7, the National Association of Home Builders, the Massachusetts Builders Association and the Italian-American Club. Mr. Kinnas was a licensed pyrotechnical engineer and had set off many fireworks displays for the Mets games and Fourth of July activities, as well as throughout New England. He played cards in local pitch leagues . Besides his parents, of Pittsfield, he leaves a son, Peter S. Kinnas Jr. of Pittsfield; two daughters, Carly L. Kinnas and Mindy M. Kinnas, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard S. Kinnas of Spencer; a sister, Irene K. Goebel of Cheshire, and his longtime companion, Tina M. Barnini of Dalton. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at noon at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 4 to 8. Flowers may be sent or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home. Mr. Kinnas enjoyed gardening, traveling, the beach and roller coasters. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
