Mellissa I. Murphy, 80

ADAMS, Mass. —  

Mellissa I. (Lefebvre) Murphy, 80, of Adams, died on Monday, June 8, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

She was born in Adams on April 26, 1946, a daughter of the late Joseph and Thais (Jones) Lefebvre. She attended schools in Adams and earned her associate’s degree in respiratory therapy.

Mellissa worked for many years as a respiratory therapist at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield until her retirement. Earlier she had worked for Berkshire Medical Center.

She was a communicant of the Parish of St. John Paul II at Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams. She enjoyed farming and had been a hospice volunteer for several years. Her greatest joy was being a mom and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Steven Popielarczyk and his wife Janet of Ware and James Murphy of Edmond, OK; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Popielarczyk, Katie Fallon and Jacob Sifuentes; five sisters, Norma Morin, Diana Oparowksi, Pamela Martishnig, Debra Varno and Tina Radlowski as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Mark Popielarczyk; four brothers, Jeffrey, Gary, Joseph and Kenneth Lefebvre and by six sisters, Patricia Edwards, Rita Grande, Leona Sherman, Loretta Atwell, Sandra Suriner and Barbara Jzyk.

The funeral will be held on Friday, June 19th at 10:00 A.M. in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church, Adams. Burial will be at a later date. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, 877 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
