Raymond Lapine

Raymond J. Lapine, 83, of N. 5027 Walnut St., Spokane, Wash., formerly of North Adams, died Feb. 28 in Spokane, where he had lived for more than 25 years. Born in North Adams on March 3, 1918, son of Henry and Elizabeth Lapine, he was a 1936 graduate of Drury High School. A master sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he was stationed in Spokane and England. Mr. Lapine was employed by the former New England Telephone and Telegraph Co. in North Adams for 31 years. He moved to Spokane after retiring. While in North Adams, he was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, where he was active in the choirs and the vestry, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. In Spokane, he was a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge. His wife, the former Borghild "Betty" Haugan, whom he married in Spokane in 1946, died in 1986. He leaves two daughters, Kristin LaForest of Spokane and Tone O'Neill of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; two sons, James Lapine of Adams and Edward Lapine of San Francisco; a half-sister, Margaret Hartwig of Connecticut, and six grandchildren. A memorial service was held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Spokane, Wash., on March 5. Interment followed at St. Stephen's Columbarium.
