Walter J. Stuber

Walter J. Stuber, 103, of Stony Brook Road died Tuesday at home, two days before his 104th birthday. Born in Newark, N.J., on March 21, 1898, son of William G. and Lucie Nee Briese Stuber, he was educated in schools in Stuttgart, Germany. At age 13 he entered and served with the German army during World War I. He served with the United States Army as a lieutenant during World War II. He was an owner and farmer of the Golden Acres Farm in Pennsylvania. He was a pioneer in bio-dynamic farming. He was also a draftsman and became a partner in a manufacturing company. He had been a resident of Great Barrington since 1960. His wife, the former Ursula Mueller, died Nov. 30, 1983. He leaves two great-nephews and a great-niece, all of Germany. He also leaves countless friends of all ages who will miss him. Services will be Friday, March 22, at 1 p.m. at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Ernest Helmke officiating. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Stony Brook Cemetery, Great Barrington. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Rudolf Steiner Library c/o Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
