Genowefa Debkowski

Genowefa Romankiewicz Debkowski, 84, of 224 Oak St., Housatonic, died Tuesday at Timberlyn Heights. Born in Canonsburg, Pa., on Dec. 10, 1917, daughter of Boleslaw and Alexandria Ptak Romankiewicz, she returned to Poland as a child and attended schools there. She returned to New York in 1960. Mrs. Debkowski was employed in the housekeeping department for the Birden apartment rental company in New York City until her retirement in 1986. In 1988, she moved to Housatonic, where she lived with her son, Stanley. She was a communicant of All Saints' Church. Her husband, Frank Debkowski, died Sept. 17, 1972. She leaves a son, Stanley Debkowski, with whom she lived; a sister, Jozefa Gierlach of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters, Czeslawa Cieloszciyk, Wladyslawa Hrzanowska and Bronislawa Rozkiewicz and one brother, Anthony Romankiewicz, who died Aug. 10, 1989. Funeral services will be Friday, April 12, from BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME at 9 a.m. to be followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in All Saints' Church at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Anthony Jutt, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the All Saints' Building Fund or to the Marian Fathers Seminarian's Fund in care of BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
